The APPGAP welcomes the extension of the Adoption Support Fund for another three years
This week, the Department for Education has confirmed the extension of the Adoption Support Fund (ASF) for another three years until 2025. As yet, no further details have been provided as to the size of the fund or any changes to the way it will operate. The APPG for Adoption and Permanence welcomes the extension of the ASF, which will take the fund to its tenth year. The group will continue to advocate for a firm commitment to its long-term retention.
The ASF funds vital therapeutic support for thousands of adoptive families across England, with many describing the support received through the ASF as having a significantly positive impact on their family.
The ASF was introduced in 2015 to enable families to access a range of therapeutic interventions to help them overcome the legacy of childhood trauma. In that time, the Government has invested around £200 million in the fund, benefitting more than 61,000 families.
