APPG on Adoption and Permanence Launches Inquiry to Hear from Adopted Young People
Today, 26th March 2025, the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Adoption and Permanence launches its latest inquiry, aimed at amplifying the voices and experiences of adopted young people aged 13 to 25. It is vital that MPs, Peers, and policy makers, hear directly from adopted young people. The APPG is committed to bringing their unique perspectives and experience to the forefront.
Chaired by Rachael Maskell MP, with secretariat support from Home for Good and Adoption UK, the APPG recognises there are specific challenges faced by adopted young people during their teenage and young adult years. This inquiry an opportunity to gather firsthand accounts and qualitative evidence from young people, providing a clear picture of their challenges and opportunities.
Focus Areas of the Inquiry
The inquiry will concentrate on three main areas:
1. Education
2. Identity
3. Health & Wellbeing
By examining these topics, the APPG aims to gain a deeper understanding of the support needs of adopted young people and identify areas where current systems can be improved. The goal is to engage directly with adopted young people and place their voices at the centre of policy-making processes.
Call for Evidence
A steering group of adopted young adults have co-designed a survey, which launches today. We are seeking the views and experiences of adopted young people living in England aged 13 - 25. We encourage you to share the survey link with any adopted young people in your family or community.
How to Participate
Adopted young people living in England and aged 13 to 25 are invited to participate in the survey. By doing so, they can contribute directly to the final report, which will include recommendations for developing policies and practices to improve support for adopted young people.
Submissions to the survey can be made here: Inquiry Adoptee Voices
The group will also be holding evidence sessions in the coming months, with a view to delivering a written report to the next government.
